How do I learn a new skill?
Learning sticks when you aim to do something specific rather than to “know” a subject. The same goes for procrastination: it often means the next step is too big or too vague. Choose a result, then plan backward.
Work backward in five steps
Define the result
Say what you will be able to do, like holding a basic conversation in Spanish or building a simple website.
Pick a date
If you are heading back to school, enter application and enrollment deadlines first.
Shrink the first step
Make it small enough to finish in ten minutes, so that getting started is never the obstacle.
Schedule practice
Short, regular sessions are easier to keep up than occasional long ones.
Test yourself early
Try a real project or a practice exam before you feel ready, and let the results direct your study.
Where people get stuck
Watching lessons can feel like progress without building the skill. Make sure each week includes something you actually produce.
Goals you can plan here
This is general planning guidance. Check program requirements directly with the school.
